Saint Gobian Case Study

Saint Gobian is a worldwide leader in light and sustainable construction, Saint-Gobain designs, manufactures, and distributes materials and services for the construction and industrial markets. They provide solutions for the renovation of private and public buildings, construction, and the decarbonization of construction.

The client wanted to create an Application where they can allow users to create shapes and objects with specific dimensions and constraints, rather than having to manually input each point or line. They did not give us the design file, only provided the information that needs to be added to the application so we created the design as per the current standard and an easy-to-use application for any non-expert users. There is a bunch of input that we need to manage and place in a clean design. When creating a web application to automate the design, manufacturing, and distribution of materials requires a good understanding of the existing systems and processes, thorough planning, a clear and well-designed architecture, and a dedicated team.

There are several potential challenges when creating a web application to automate the design, manufacture, and distribution of materials. Some of these challenges include:

• Complexity: Material design and manufacturing can be a complex process, and it may be difficult to create a web application that can handle all the necessary calculations and inputs.

• User Experience: The application needs to provide a seamless and efficient user experience. This includes not only the user interface but also the navigation, the data flow, and the overall functionality.

• Data Management: The application needs to handle large amounts of data such as material properties, manufacturing process data, and more. This can be challenging to manage and ensure data integrity.

• Integration: The application needs to integrate with other software and systems such as CAD, ERP, and more. This requires a good understanding of the existing systems and processes and how they can be integrated into the new application.

• Security: Material manufacturing and distribution often involve sensitive data, and the application will need to have robust security features to protect this data from unauthorized access or breaches.

• User Adoption: Getting users to adopt the application and use it effectively can be a challenge, especially if it requires significant changes to existing processes or training.

• Maintenance: The application requires regular maintenance and updates to fix bugs, improve features, and adapt to the changing needs of the users.

• Scalability: The application will need to be able to handle a large number of users and large amounts of data. It will need to be designed in a way that can scale to meet the needs of a growing user base.

• Testing: the application needs to be thoroughly tested to ensure that it is functional and bug-free. This includes functional testing, performance testing, usability testing, and more.

• We have created a web application where users add input shapes and objects with specific dimensions and constraints as per their requirements and with the help of the automation process the output design previews will appear, and they can order the material or re-edit the process to create again.

• We have given login features so users can log in create their requirements and save.

• We have integrated existing software into the application to handle specific tasks such as CAD, ERP, and PLM.

• We did API integration that allows for easy integration with other systems and software.

• We have added optimizing the application's performance by using techniques such as caching, load balancing, and database indexing.

• Without the help of wireframes and prototypes, we made the application's user interface and navigation well-designed and easy to use.

• We have created a user list page where the admin can create,  view, edit, and manage the users.

• There are a bunch of processes to create a material or any mechanical equipment design, we have divided the input into smaller, more manageable pieces that can be tackled one at a time. This can help make the process more manageable and less overwhelming.

• We have added validation so it will not impact the result, the validation takes only valid input from the users. 

• We created the whole application as per the client's requirements and suggested they improve the application features, quality, and design as per the current standard. 

• We have tested the application and solved all the bugs that can be encountered in the future.
